A pair of 1/48 Halberstadts
« on: March 30, 2013, 09:23:47 AM »
This is a project I've been wanting to do ever since Rowan first released the excellent Pheon Halberstadt Cl.IV decal sheet.  So many terrific options that I knew I had to do both the Halberstadt short fuselage version and the Roland built long version.  I had intended to use the Karaya kits for both of them, but when Mirage released the Roland version, having already built their superb Cl.II, I decided to do a side by side comparison.  This is the scheme in intend to use for the Roland:

And for the Halberstadt, I'll be doing either option #4 or #7.

Compared to the Mirage kit, the Karaya's internal framing detail is a little soft, so for consistency, I chose to get rid of it and add new framing.

The Karaya seat was a little too tall for a Cl.II, so I cut it down to match the Mirage seat.

And made cushions from Citadel Green Stuff.

Here's how they look as of today.  The one in the foreground is the Karaya.

The one behind, of course, is the Mirage.

I'm working on a few more internal details at the moment-wireless sets, ammo drums and engines-then I'll be closing them up.  We've bought a new house and will be moving within a month, so I convinced SWMBO that they needed to be closed up to survive the move, buying myself a bit more bench time before packing it all up and going into black-out.  She's very supportive, not to mention sweet, kind and understanding.
More soon, guys.
Cheers,
Bud

Bud,

This looks like a fun project. The cockpits look great. I was wondering how the 2 kits compared.

Good luck with your move, Bud. Looks like a fun project and do protect them in transit. Last, make sure you claim a little space in that new house for a place to apply your talents to plastic, looking forward to an update once you are settled in.
Cheers,
Lance

Two builds at once? I tip my hat to you! I also envy your ability to roll up your sleeves and start cutting and hacking. I still haven't gotten to that stage of development yet with my aircraft models.

Cheers,

Chris

Hello, Bud -

Just catching up with what's been going on recently.   I will watch your progress carefully as I know you always do superb work in this scale.

Great progress so far - I really like your knocked seat cushions.

Hello Bud:

I like your seat cushion work.  Very convincing not to mention the interior work, but I will, it really looks the part.
I like these kits and I will enjoy watching you work them to completion.  Good luck on the move, always fun............. :o

Best
